The floor and the tables

Chances Casino Kelowna opens at 9 am every day. It closes at 1 am Sunday to Wednesday and at 2 am Thursday to Saturday. Holiday hours are not published, so a phone call is the check. The slot floor holds nearly 400 machines in denominations from 1 cent to $1. Slot-tournament machines are part of the mix.

Live tables open daily at 10:30 am and run until close, 14 of them across two pits. The games are Blackjack, Free Bet Blackjack, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, Baccarat, Roulette, Mississippi Stud, Fast Action Poker and Face-Up Fortune Pai Gow. Roulette starts at 6 pm and Baccarat at 6:30 pm. On Friday and Saturday, Face-Up Fortune Pai Gow and a High Limit Blackjack table at $25-$1000 open at 6:30 pm. Electronic table games cover Blackjack, Baccarat, Roulette and Craps.

Sports and race betting

The Sportsbook Lounge is on the second floor, built around a 25-foot screen. Bets go through BCLC PROLINE retail sports betting, at 5 kiosks in the lounge and 2 on the gaming floor. Cash bets run from $1 to $100, and no account is needed. The venue calls it Kelowna's first sportsbook lounge.

Horse racing has its own room, the Derby Den, which carries BC Racebook off-track betting. More than 15 TV monitors show the races, and bets start at $2. The Province lists Chances Kelowna as a teletheatre. Keno, scratch & win and Lotto tickets are sold at two lottery outlets, one of them Chips Café. A pull-tab machine stands near the café.

The story since 2002

Chances Casino Kelowna dates from 2002. It is operated by Goldwing Investments (Saskatoon) Ltd, doing business as Chances Kelowna Gaming & Entertainment, and its founder is Stan Walt. It began as a bingo and community gaming centre. Slots arrived in 2005, followed later by off-track betting, live tables, a poker room and food and drink. Bingo ended in August 2022 after about 35 years.

The property covers 42,000 square feet, with a team of more than 200 employees. Chances says it has not launched an online casino. It warns about scam sites that use its name. In B.C., the province's own online gambling site is PlayNow.com, run by BCLC.

Parking, buses and cash

Parking is free and on site, in the lot in front of the main entrance on Springfield Road, with EV charging. By bus, the stops Springfield Rd at Dayton St and Springfield Rd at Burtch Rd are about 150 m away. Routes 8 University / College and 11 Rutland / Downtown serve both. Several ATMs stand on the casino floor, and table chips can be bought with cash at the table.

Every person entering a B.C. casino must show government-issued photo ID, a rule in place since June 26, 2023. Security scans it and checks it against the list of people restricted from entering, such as those enrolled in Game Break.
